A North Kentucky woman currently detained without bond at Bourbon County Jail, has been accused of obstructing governmental operations, tampering with physical evidence, and the abuse of a corpse.

Torilena May Fields, 32, of Mount Olivet,  was booked into Bourbon County Jail on October 10, 2024, after a maintenance worker made a 911 call to report the discovery of a body at Fields residence on Brierly Ridge Road in Robertson County.

Robertson County sits on the central northern border of Tennessee, around 50 miles from Cincinnati, and has a population of just over 72,000 people.

The property in question stands alone in a rural area at 3510 Brierly Ridge Rd, Mt Olivet, where the population is less than 350, and neighbours are few and far between.

On October 10, 2024, maintenance worker James R. Belvins, made a 911 call to report a possible dead body in the back yard of the residence. The call came in at approximately 12:30pm. Officers with the Kentucky State Police were quick to respond.

The crew had been hired to work on the property by the homeowner, Trudy Fields, whom they could not locate. When Belvins walked around the perimeter of the home he noticed a pile of hair that he recognised as belonging to the homeowner.

Belvin said he had last seen Trudy Fields alive on 8 October 2024, at around 6:30pm. She had walked him and his crew to the property gates, locking it behind them. Another woman at the property, whom he later identified as Trudy’s daughter, Torilena, was "being confrontational" and "casting spells" on him and his team, Belvins said.

According to court records, after knocking on the front door and receiving no answer, officers made their way to the back of the property, where they noticed blood pooled around the back porch.

They found a mattress saturated in blood, as well as human hair and depressions in the grass resembling drag marks, which led to the dismembered body of a woman. Another mattress and bloodied stick were found in the vicinity.

One of the mattresses closest to the body was folded over, and when officers unfolded it they discovered human organs inside.

Search warrant in hand, the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team arrived at the scene and attempted to remove Torilena, who had what looked like blood on her clothing, face, and hands, from the property.

She resisted, even after several rounds of tear gas was used.

Eventually, after several hours of negotiations with a troopers via a police robot, the suspect was arrested.

She was then taken into custody around 11pm that night and identified as Torilena Fields.

Officers were not prepared for what they would find inside the house, and soon discovered severed limbs, arms, and legs, as well as the victim's severed head, and organs, and a spine, which had been cut in half. Some of the body parts looked as though they had been recently cooked in the oven.

When officers removed a stainless steel pot from inside the oven it was still warm.

Although not officially confirmed, Media outlets speculate that Torilena Field's mother, Trudy Fields, is the alleged victim of the crime. An autopsy is being performed to officially confirm both the identity of the victim, and the cause of death, and is expected to be completed this week.

Court documents show that the suspect may have had drugs in their system.

Other charges could be filed against the suspect as the investigation continues.

Mt. Olivet resident Alan Lainhart told WCPO news: "It was like a horror movie," It's just a bad situation. It just surprised everyone. You would never know."

One resident said of the arrest: "Around here you hear of certain people, you know, domestic violence cases and all that, but I've never heard of something so awful. When I first heard of it, I was so shocked, everyone was so shocked, no one could believe that something like this happened this close."

Torilena Fields is set to be arraigned this week.

She has no prior criminal record, and a mugshot published online shows Fields casting her eyes down.

It is unclear whether or not Torilena has legal representation at this time.

Fox19 spoke with a friend of the victim who wished to remain anonymous, but described the slain woman as “a great woman, a Christian woman”, "very kind and giving, just very soft spoken, never said a bad word about anyone; you couldn't help but love her." "I cried and I'm just in shock because I can’t believe it happened, and I can't believe it happened here in this small town."

The anonymous friend added "I hear that she shot her, but upon reading the article, I did not know it was that bad."

Update: Reports state that Fields has been indicted on a murder charge in the shooting and stabbing death of her mother. She has also been accused of torturing and killing a dog.

On14 October 2024, at County Judicial Center, District Judge Charles Kuster Jr. entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf as she did not show up for court, nor did she appear via video link. A preliminary hearing is expected 23 October 2024.
